In the Dhivehi language, “Masverin” means “fishermen.” By naming our brand MASVERIN, we celebrate the hardworking fishermen who rise before dawn to catch tuna one by one, preserving a fishing tradition that has been passed down through generations.
Single-Origin: 100 % Maldivian skipjack and yellowfin tuna—one pristine ocean, one unmistakable flavour.
Sustainably Caught: Pole-and-line and hand-line only—no nets, no by-catch, ocean-friendly.
Premium Cut: B-plus grade or higher fish, A-grade cleaning—no skin, no bones, just prime fillet.
Low-Mercury Promise: We use smaller fish, naturally lower in mercury—ideal for health-conscious diners.
Global Sustainability Standard: Sourced from an MSC-certified Maldivian pole-and-line fishery—ethics you can taste.
Naturally Healthy: Lean protein, clean-label, low-mercury, and rich in omega-3.
Authentic Maldivian Flavour: Bringing island taste to Australian cafés, homes and specialty stores.
Yes. Our tuna is pole-and-line caught in Maldivian waters and canned within hours at an MSC-certified cannery on the same island (check photos below). This single-origin process locks in freshness, supports local fishers, and guarantees that every tin is genuinely “Maldives from ocean to can.”
Yes. Net fishing is banned in the Maldives, so all MASVERIN tuna is 100 % pole-and-line caught with zero by-catch—dolphin safe by design.
Our manufacturing partner already meets the MSC Fisheries Standard. We’re finalising Chain-of-Custody so the blue ecolabel can appear on future cans.
Yes, other countries have fisheries that meet the MSC Fisheries Standard and utilise methods like purse-seine or long-line operations. However, Maldivian law completely bans these fishing methods. As a result, every MSC-certified tuna fishery in the Maldives relies solely on pole-and-line or hand-line techniques. This means that a can of MASVERIN comes from the world’s largest, 100% one-by-one, MSC-certified tuna fishery—ensuring no nets, no bycatch, and sustainable hook-and-line fishing in every tin.
MASVERIN can reach shelves in Sydney within weeks after catch, significantly faster than the 4 to 12-month timelines of most brands.
Skipjack naturally carries less mercury than larger tuna species, and we lab-test every batch to keep levels well below Australian FSANZ guidelines.
The price reflects one-by-one fishing, rapid canning, gourmet flavour infusions and low-volume production—yet it still undercuts other premium canned tuna.
Keep unopened cans in a cool, dry cupboard. Refrigerate after opening and enjoy within 48 hours. Shelf life is five years from production.
Yes. Our cans use BPA-free linings and are made of 100 % recyclable steel—just rinse and place in your household recycling bin.
We primarily use skipjack tuna in our cans, which is a smaller species known to have lower mercury levels. Food safety guidelines still recommend that pregnant women consume two to three servings of tuna each week. In some cases, we may also use yellowfin tuna, which will be clearly labelled on the packaging.
Katsuwonus pelamis (skipjack). It’s fast-growing, abundant and sits low on the food chain, which keeps mercury levels lower than larger species like yellowfin and albacore tuna.
